callippo
More Falklands veterans have killed themselves than died in the conflict itself http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/shocking-suicide-toll-on-combat-veterans-1746475.html so what. The chances of somebody committing suicide are quite high anyway. It's not an especially unusual cause of death. why would anybody be surprised that out of the thousands deployed in 1982 that after almost thirty years, more people have killed themselves since that time than were killed in the three months of the war itself? Male suicides per 100,000 of the population in the UK - 17.7 per year. Is your contention that 1.5 million British men fought in the Falklands? MrMoran
Everyone edits what they see so that it fits in with their pre-conceptions and prejudices to some degree or other. However, this often seems much more pronounced in those with extreme or fanatical views. It can be so extreme that some people actually seem to hallucinate when reading/hearing anything which doesn't tally with their version of reality. Such people will pen irrelevant replies to posts, which show little or no comprehension what was said, but instead appear to be in response to the imagined thoughts and opinions of rigid stereotypes they have dreamed up, seemingly confusing them with real people in the real world. Halibut
The words. You don't believe that people with extreme views sometimes - ''pen irrelevant replies to posts, which show little or no comprehension what was said, but instead appear to be in response to the imagined thoughts and opinions of rigid stereotypes they have dreamed up, seemingly confusing them with real people in the real world''? How strange. There are examples of precisely the sort of behaviour that Donkey describes all over the internet, and SF in particular?
MrMoran
You don't believe that people with extreme views sometimes - I believe it alright. I mean, theres you for example. Your views can be considered quite extreme at times. ''pen irrelevant replies to posts, which show little or no comprehension what was said, but instead appear to be in response to the imagined thoughts and opinions of rigid stereotypes they have dreamed up, seemingly confusing them with real people in the real world''? You again. How strange. There are examples of precisely the sort of behaviour that Donkey describes all over the internet, and SF in particular? I was disputing the direction of Donkeys comment. Not if it were true or not.

Is your contention that 1.5 million British men fought in the Falklands? no, but how about comparing the suicide rate for the thousands of guys in the army, navy and airforce that DID NOT happen serve in the Falklands and comparing it with those that did. If somebody is saying that just because some young guy went to the South Atlantic for a few months in 1982 then that necessarily caused them to commit suicide 20 years later, then I'd think they probably need to think again. They might have been from a higher risk group than the norm regardless of whether or not they went to the Falklands, and eventually killed themselves anyway for a totally unrelated reason. I'm not sure how you get 1.5 million though. 258 losses in the Falklands conflict on the British side From 1982 to now, thats 29 years, so that's 8.8 a year At a suicide rate of 17.7 per 100,000 that would be a pool of 50,000 needed, not 1.5 million.
