Do you ask guests to remove footwear as they enter your home?

If so , how do you go about this?

Ask them Politely?

A notice on the wall or door?

What do you do if this is request is ignored?

This weather, i seem to be forever cleaning muddy foot prints from my home light coloured carpets and wondered if you think its wrong to make such a request?

No I've got floor tiles in the hallway & front room (not got rounf to carpeting yet) so it's no problem fo me to get the mop out. But if I did have a carpet I would politely ask them to remove their shoes.

If this request was ignored, just point at the muddy footprints & say " just look at what some dirty get has done".

When I was selling a house once an Egyption looking chap came to view it and he took his shoes off outside the front door and left his shoes outside. I said it was ok to leave them on or at least place them inside, but he insisted. Must be a cultural thing, very polite of him if nothing else. Good job it wasn't raining.
