Jeffrey Shaw
More and more organisations are switching to '03' numbers. These charge true local call rates, and are free if the caller's telecom provider package includes them. The defect with 0845 numbers is that they were instituted to charge true local call rates but the scheme pre-dated deregulation and call charge packages. Muddy Paws
You just have to go to the "say no to 0870" website, and put the 084--/087-- number in, and they will usually have the alternative landline number, Job done! I never knew this either it could save a fortune, thank you for the information.
Leah-Lacie
Npower, for example, have an 0800 number you can ring, which they try to reserve for 'New customers only' and it does tell you when you ring in an automated voice, but sod that. If I can get put through to where I want to be from there, then I'll continue to ring it!
Jeffrey Shaw
Another device. Some firms that show 0845 etc. numbers also provide a landline number for overseas callers** (in the format 44-114-xxx xxxx). Convert it to a UK format, as an 0114 number, and there you are. ** (If they don't: contact them [using 141 to block your number] and ask for number to use from overseas!)
