denlin
First footing, sounds like something you do when you go dogging. First footing is a Scottish tradition on stroke of midnight to see out old year and welcome in new by going to your neighbours with piece of coal, pointless now as not many people have coal fires:hihi::hihi:
LDeville
Hi Approx a couple of years ago, in a woking class town, did a father/step father no go out and beat up a householder for telling his kid off for throwing an egg at the victims home??? When we were young, if the school ever sent a letter home to our parents, we knew we were in deep trouble. these days, try telling off a spolit kid and the mother and her partner will come over and abuse you verbally and may even attack you. Hope it rains very heaviliy that night in most areas. where we live we are ok, we hope but many others will suffer

alternageek
All you have to do is say, "No, I'm not gving you anything," you don't have to be nasty about it and call them scroungers and consider youself superior or whatever. If you don't want to participate in Halloween, then don't but why try and ruin it for other people? I dont think Im better than those who participate in the day, all I ask is to be able to pay attention to the clearly posted signs. I dont tell them they are illiterate to their faces, its just that when I left a note on the doors last year saying our house isnt participating (Please Dont Knock, No Sweeties Here) then, I get nasty looks from the parents. Its annoying when you tell people NOT to knock and they do. Im not a soulless person, I just cant stand people who cant follow instructions. If they read the sign, the little ones wouldnt be so sad or disappointed.

You chose to excercise your freedom of choice and others must respect that!!!!!
