Halibut
it's an overblown word they use to fortify a weak point of view. You don't need to smack children to teach them discipline.
upinwath
Perhaps spank would be a better word to use than slap?. Why - Does it alter the action or the reason for doing it?
manofstrad
It seems that many parents have successfully raised their children with the use of smacking, and many parents have been equally successful without. Perhaps this is one decision that should be left to the discretion of the parent?
Flowersfade
Why - Does it alter the action or the reason for doing it? Yes as i see it a smack/slap is something an adult does to another adult using full force whilst a spank is softer and more controlled without inflicting injury. Do you think you could stop splitting hairs now guys please? Anyone with a modicum of common sense knows what the word 'smacking' in the OP is referring to. mj.scuba
I don't think the government should have any say in the matter. There are laws to stop child abuse already in place. Children require discipline, perhaps the feral kids we see would be less of a problem if they had some discipline as children rather than being molly coddled. Spot on Flowersfade, I've already tried explaining that numerous times. The law is vague..<snip> Indeed, as are most laws and the application of them. If they were not, there would be no need to interpretation.
mj.scuba
But some do in the misguided notion that they are chastising their children. A law removes ambiguity. You are the guardian of the child, not the owner. Laws don't remove ambiguity, laws are still open to interpretation by the judiciary.
mj.scuba
Do the laws that says you musn't beat or rape your wife also represent an intrusion by an authoritian nannying state, or is that somehow different? Correct. --
