LeFlump
If Britain would've stayed out of World War 1, we could've avoided the huge problems that passed in Europe. We wouldn't've weakened ourselves and our empire, and we'd've come nowhere near the crippling effects of WW2. France would've been defeated within a year or so. They'd've lost Alsace-Lorraine again and been grumpy about it. Germany would never've been crippled, and Hitler would never've come to power. Russia would've lost some of the Baltic regions to Austria, but their revolution would never've come to pass. Lenin would be forgotten by history as 'a loon'. America would never have taken their first steps into European action, and maybe their society would be different today. Certainly without WW2 they could've never gained as much strength. So, as an historical "if"; if we would never of had that war then we would all be happier today.

But you may not be able to communicate (space technology, computers) in the same way you do now, heat your home etc. It's widely acknowledged that conflicts do trend to accelerate the development of technologies. L00b
France would've been defeated within a year or so. They'd've lost Alsace-Lorraine again and been grumpy about it.Notwithstanding the complete nonsensical argument that the whole OP is (as if the British Empire would have endured in a vaccuum ), Alsace Moselle had been part of Germany since 1870, and until the end of WW1. Phanerothyme
Well it's done now isn't it - It's the same problem I have with that knob Niall Ferguson. If Britain had stayed out of WWI, there is absolutely no way whatsoever to determine what the course of history would be - assuming it would be better or worse is not a statement about the historical record, but is an exercise in wishful thinking. Could be argued that a few brains endure in a vacuum on here.
LeFlump
Alsace Moselle had been part of Germany since 1870, and until the end of WW1. True, true. France would've lost a second war with Germany and been equally as grumpy as before.
