wardlow1889
I was recently looking at a pictorial history book of Sheffield and I saw the Jubilee Monument that was on Fargate and the Crimean Monument that was on Union St and South St. I don't think either of them are still there. So my questions are: Were they moved anywhere else? Why were they removed (or destroyed)? Does anyone know anything about them? Also for anyone interested there's a great website of Sheffield's public art (I found this from another message on this site so thanks to whoever posted it first. I'm just trying to spread the word on how good it is). http://public-art.shu.ac.uk/sheffield/thumb1.html
Nagel
The Jubilee monument is now at the entrance to Endcliffe Park. The Crimea monument, which is also a statue of Queen Victoria, was previously in the Botanical gardens, but was put into storage when they renovated them. It would be nice to have it on display again. Thread here - http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=298303

The Column was taken into pieces and used as street furnuture. One more thing the winged Lions outside T J Hughes and on the other side of the road were cast from moulds made from original stone LIons that were on the Crimea Monument, the stone Lions were considered to badly eroded to save. The statue is of a young Queen Victoria and she is depicted as "Honour" and not "Peace".
