Geoffrey Robinson MP in dangerous dogs debate

Recommended Posts

I have lived next door to staffordshire bull terriers for years and they are lovely but put them in the hands of the uneducated in the ways of dogs and you have a recipe for danger. All dogs can be dangerous if provoked but the owner needs to be fully aware of how to be a leader to the dog or the dog will take charge.

How can a Staffordshire Bull Terrier be an American breed? Staffordshire's in England!

Whether it's an American site or not is irrelevant. It explains why a Staffordshire Bull Terrier is a type of Pit Bull Terrier.

Er, you don't know what "pro" means, do you?

When I say "pro", it means a site that is promoting staffies and trying to argue in favour of them. That a site trying to defend staffies can't deny how dangerous a breed they are says it all.

Surely if how dangerous staffies are depended on how they were bred, the statistics would be totally different from one country to the next? They're not though; take this site from Australia where the government did a study on number of dog attacks by breed in New South Wales.

http://www.dlg.nsw.gov.au/dlg/dlghome/documents/information/NSW%20Report%20-%20Dog%20Attack%20Incidents%20-%203rd%20quarter%20report%20-%202009-10.pdf

On page two is shows that there were 156 attacks by Staffordshire Bull Terriers (plus another 46 where it was thought the breed was a Staffordshire Bull Terrier but couldn't be conclusively identified). That's over 200 attacks by Staffies, more than double those by the next most frequently attacking dog!

So whether you live in the UK, the US or Australia, it's been proved time and time again that the staffy is the most dangerous breed of dog. This is why something needs to be done to protect our children from them.

Sausage dogs are the most aggressive dogs (Short-Haired Dachshund)

Forget pit bulls, rottweilers and Rhodesian ridgebacks, it's the sausage dog that's the most aggressive breed.

top ten most aggressive breed:

Dachshunds

Chihuahua

Jack Russell

Australian Cattle Dog

Cocker Spaniel

Beagle

Border Collie

Pit Bull Terrier

Great Dane

English Springer Spaniel

Funny how you never hear about serious sausage dog or Chihuaha savagings every other month is it?! no its not because the media is ignoring them, its because THEY'RE NOT HAPPENING !

Pitbulls and Rottweilers, because of how they're built, have the capability of causing real harm.

Why do you find facts funny.

Many dog bites go unreported and only bites that require medical attention go on current bite statistics so are misleading.

I never said it was American you wrongly assumed that the Staffordshire Terrier is the same as the Staffordshire Bull Terrier it isn't. The American Staffordshire Terrier is a breed apart.

The site explains that there are three designations in AMERICA. The American Pitbull Terrier, The American Staffordshire, and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. The 'essentially the same ' tag refers to the dogs heritage not that they are one in the same breed. As with most dogs (aside from the latest batch of misfits) they are related to earlier breeds and a succession of crosses has led us to where they are today.

And I; like a few others on this thread have not disputed that some staffy's are a problem but you have refused all comments on evidence showing them to be good natured also, instead you've spent your time trawling for as much negative press from around the globe as you can find.
