rickiethecat
"He discovers that some owners deliberately train and abuse their animals to make them vicious attack dogs" or more evidence that it is the owners who are the problem, not the dogs The reason why they choose staffies to train is because they are already instinctively a violent breed. The problem is both the breed AND the owner.

This breed is highly intelligent, eager to please and very people friendly. It has a special empathy with children and it is for this it is best known. It adapts readily to most situations making it the foremost all purpose dog. Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppies are very easy to house train

TeaFan
The problem with the Dangerous Dogs Act as it stands is that a prosecution can only be brought if one of the proscribed breeds is in public without being registered and without a muzzle; or a dog of any breed is out of control in public and putting people at risk, and then only if you can persuade the police to bring a prosecution, which they are often not keen to do. I do think that registration and chipping of all dogs should be compulsory and that police vehicles should have chip scanners - that way, if the police or public have concerns about the behaviour of any dog in public it can be scanned for a chip and if it hasn't got one it can be impounded and destroyed if need be, and if it has been chipped then action can be taken against the owner. mj.scuba
Which is exactly what a Staffordshire bull terrier is. http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=769564 Always seems to be a staffy, doesn't it? It's unfortunate that the staffy is the dog of choice for a disproportionate number of toerags who want a macho dog (must be to make up for something ) and bring them up all wrong, I don't think it's a characteristic of the dog per se. Murphy Jnr
So it's fine to have facial scars for life if an eight year old kid doesn't know how dangerous these dogs are? Drrrrrr Which is exactly why a child should not be left with a dog and in many cases they are.
