speedbirdone
Yeah fully apreciate what you saying, but surely another plane could be sent its only an hours flight after all. So the plane did go tech, it's not always as simple as just flying out a replacement. In general airlines don't have spare multi million pound aeroplanes sitting around doing nothing all day on the off chance another plane goes tech. Larger airlines like BA with fleets of several hundred planes can juggle aircraft around a bit more easily than a airline with a much smaller fleet ( BMI Baby only have a fleet of 14 aircraft ) should they need too. Ghostrider
Dont they usually turn lights off on take off and aproach? They do, on night flights....however this happened just after we rolled to a stop - the captain even apologised for it over the speakers !
speedbirdone
And the reason for turning lights off during take off and landing, is that if an evacuation of the aircraft is need, your eyes are already adjusted to it been dark.

JFKvsNixon
One last point ,if it was such a major problem, then why wasent it noted until five minutes before take off. Maybe the pre-flight checklist brought up an issue? Also you have to remember that not only does the airline have to find another flyable plane, they than have to fuel it, find a crew who would be sat around doing nothing and then fly it to Jersey.
