Another celebrity esacpes a driving ban

Recommended Posts

What is it with magistrates are they overawed by rock stars? Ian Brown of the Stone Roses gets away with a £600 fine and six penalty points for doing 105 mph on the M56.

Celebrity lawyer Nick Freeman said taking the star's wheels could seriously jeopardise the preparation for next year's concerts — the most eagerly-awaited gigs for years.

He added: "The band are rehearsing three days a week at a remote secret location 40 miles from the defendant's home address.

"As someone who is in the public eye, one can imagine the difficulty he would encounter if he was forced to travel on public transport."

Magistrates were told Brown did 50,000 miles a year driving between his home in Lymm, Cheshire, and London to visit his 11-year-old son.

He also ran errands and did a weekly shop for his parents who live about ten miles from his home.

They sold the 3 come back gigs out in 15 minutes, it is not as though he can't afford to pay for a driver, one law for the rich and one law for the rest of us.

"Remote Secret location", I wonder if its the recording studios in the converted bunker at Frodsham where Oceanic recorded Insanity.

Or it could be this new one near Wrexham: http://www.aerialstudios.co.uk

Don't want to burst your bubble, but it isn't celebrity, it is money - anyone can get similar treatment if you can afford the lawyer.

Not really, anyone can list any circumstances that would make a ban unworkable. You don't need to be a celeb (or rich) for that.

The lawyer doesn't tell the magistrate what judgement to make.

Come on , everyone on here preaching ,and claiming to be whiter than white make me laugh. we have ALL gone way over the speed limit on the motorway . You can drive in the middle lane keeping up with the flow of traffic at 85MPH ,and cars are flying past in the fast lane like you are stood still.

We ALL do it ,so no one can take the moral high ground here. this bloke being a celertity has nothing to do with it ,as there are many people driving on the roads with more than 12 points on their licence after pleading "severe hardship " if they were to be banned. ( it was on the news only the other day ,and Yorkshire has more drivers with more than 12 points who still have their licences than anywhere else in the country).

We all do it , some of us get caught and have to face the courts ,some of us get lucky and get away with it . There are as many non celebritys getting away with this and not being banned , but no one starts a thread about them ,and they dont make the news.

This bloke being a celebrity makes him an easy target for the hypocrites who speed ( as we all speed) , who come across holier than thou .

Meh, just because people are famous doesn't mean they are above the law, IMO he did the crime, he should do the time, or pay the fine.

Hes not above the law. He was prosecuted and got a fine.

Which he probably paid out of his loose change.

Its not a very big fine and six points really isnt enough for going over a tonne but there you have it.

Over 100mph is usually a ban but you can get out of it with extenuating circumstances and you just get a bigger fine which is what happened in this case. You can hire Nick Freeman yourself, you don't have to be famous.

Speed limit to go up on motorways in a couple of years hopefully.
