Could all life be alien to this planet?

Then time and space magically materialized from nothing? And I though the Bible was full of contradictory mumbo-jumbo.

Spacetime is an emergent property of the universse, no universe no space time. No, they did not come from nothing, what they did come from is unknown (for certain values of come and from).

The lates from the cutting edge of string theroy is that the universe exists on a membrane (branes). The ekpyrotic universe as its called and seems to be quickly gatering credibility.

A good explanation below.

In the ekpyrotic universe scenario, our universe is created from the collision of branes. The matter and radiation of our universe comes from the kinetic energy created by the collision of these two branes.

Now imagine that within these dimensions you have two infinite 3-branes. Some mechanism (such as gravity) draws the branes together through the infinite extra dimensions, and they collide with each other. Energy is generated, creating the matter for our universe and pushing the two branes apart. Eventually, the energy from the collision dissipates and the branes are drawn back together to collide yet again.

So according to the scientists they believe that when two branes touch/colide it is THIS which caused the Big Bang and all matter/life. When the branes finally come together again the universe will have long been dead and so it will start the process all over again.

Our universe could have been in existence many many many times and will continue to be reborn over and over again. Kina beautiful when you think about it.

So the current theroy goes anyway.

If it's generally accepted that nothing existed before time and space existed, time and space must have magically materialized from nothing. How can it not have if nothing existed before it materialized?

I never said nothing existed. I said spacetime began with the Big Bang. Or more accurately time emerged out of space in the initial moments of the Big Bang. To talk about what happened before is therefore somewhat meaningless, but is probably quantum.

Precisely. The assumption that something must cause it to exist leads to an infinite regressive loop;

Thing A must have existed, in order for the Universe to have come from it;

Thing B must have existed, in order for Thing A to have come from it;

Thing C must have existed, in order for Thing B...

Thing D...

....and so on endlessly, which is clearly nonsensical. If things have always existed forever, then you would still need to explain what caused them to have always existed forever.

It's turtles all the way down, or is it?

Similar to the theory i came across recently that suggested the universe is constantly expanding before snapping back together, creating another big bang, and expanding out, starting the process all over again.

It still leaves us with the question of where these 'Branes' came from and thus leaves us in the never ending circle of what went bang. It would be nice to think this question might be answered in my lifetime but i seriously doubt it will.
