Cookingfat Posted October 27, 2011 Share Posted October 27, 2011 hi forum lovers i am sure my mind is not playing tricks on me, but when i was young which is along time ago now i am sure i remember on flat street opposite where the back of thee post office was were telegraph lads waited on theeir bikes it was on the opposite side to there and ran down the back of ponds forge towards the old rag and tag i used to see lads and men carrying huge sides of pork, cows and sheep ready to be butcherd can any one else remember these shops thanks Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The 1942 Kelly's Directory shows several butcher's businesses between Nos, 35 and 39 Pond Street, including "Swift & Co., meat importers", "Colonial Produce Co., wholesale meat salesmen" and "Leonard Haythorne, rabbit salesman"..
