PopT
I made an enquiry on the Sheffield History website concerning Belle View house at Carbrook. I noticed there was a JB Furniss on one of the postings. I do not know if he was one of your rellies or not but I thought I would let you know just in case it helps your family research. Happy Days! japeflakes
Several of the Furness family moved out of Eyam during the plague to live with relatives in the Stoney Middleton area, returning afterwards.
denlin
Several of the Furness family moved out of Eyam during the plague to live with relatives in the Stoney Middleton area, returning afterwards. Thought they cut themselves off in Eyam to stop plague spreading, so nobody left.
japeflakes
Thought they cut themselves off in Eyam to stop plague spreading, so nobody left. So the story goes. However, I believe some "escaped" and thus avoided the plague. I might not have been here if they had stayed!!
mandyjf
well, that explains my husband's existence then! How do you know about the move to Stoney Middleton?
japeflakes
Well, the move would explain a lot. There is a Furness family house in Eyam. Do you know it?
mandyjf
I have done tons of work on this tree on Ancestry and I'm going on Friday to take photos; haven't been since I was a kid and didn't know I'd end up married to a Furniss then! Have seen pictures on Internet. Seems there were four households of Furnesses who stayed during the Plague; must be resilient folk.
