Supertramp
Not so. Nothing becomes an Act of Parliament (or Church of England Measure) unless it has Royal Assent. Ceremonial power, they don't wield it.
Jeffrey Shaw
Ceremonial power, they don't wield it. Not so. No Assent= not law. I agree that it's not 'they' but 'Her'. Plus the Crown owns all land in UK. The Courts are Royal Courts. The 'peace' upheld by Justices of The is hers; and the 'peace' which minor criminals are bound-over to keep is, too. epiphany
oh there are many other things that make me proud to be british. and a few things that do not make me proud. Well it is a tad strange that a bunch of people in Australia welcoming a leading member of a historically inbred dynasty born into privilege about which you can only dream is one of the things that makes you proud to be British. But whatever gets your nipples tingling.

Bulgarian
there here to stay,so get over it. The past history of other royal families suggests otherwise But we can keep them as a tourist attraction, like Alton Towers, only without the fun. Jim Hardie
Erm - because its all over the news? The 'secret' part refers to the fact that we are not told which pieces of legislation he has interfered with, and whether or not any significant changes were made. From the BBC 'Between 2007 and 2009, he was consulted on bills relating to coroners, economic development and construction, marine and coastal access, housing and regeneration, and energy and planning.' http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-15521777 Sincere apologies.
sheff50
The so called "Royal Family" are a complete waste of space. God, an old lady wearing stupid hats and Phil the greek looking dazed and confused touring warm countries in UK winter time. Ann, Eddie, Andy, Charlie, none of them have ever held down a "real" job in their usleless lives. This country needs to ditch this filthy rich family and all the spongers and move on !
