brian1941
HI FLYER, INFO ON ENDCLIFFE PARK PLANE CRASH FEBRUARY 22end 1944. A BIT OF THE STORY GOES AS. THERE HAD BEEN A LIGHT COVERING OF SNOW AND SOME KIDS HAD MADE A ICY SLIDE ACROSS THE RD AT ENDCLIFFE PARK WHERE THEY`D PLAYED TILL DUSK FELL, THEY BECAME AWARE OF THE AIRCRAFT APPROACHING AND WAS IN DEFINITE TROUBLE. THE ENGINES WERE THROBBING AND SPLUTTERING AND EVENTUALLY THE CRIPPLE AIRCRAFT PASSED DIRECTLY OVER THE ROOFTOPS. THE PLANE WAS TURNING IN A WIDE CIRCLE AND HEADING UP ECCLESALL RD, ONE OF THE BOYS PLAYING ON THE SLIDE SAID IT WAS AN B40 BOMBER. AFTER 10 MINUTES HAD PASSED CIRCLE`ING THE PLANE CRASHED IN ENDCLIFFE PARK WOODS AND WAS ON FIRE, A SMALL CROWD OF PEOPLE HAD GATHERED AND WERE MILLING AROUND. A POLICE CONSTABLE RAN IN FRONT OF THE CROWD SHOUTING TO STAND BACK AS THERE MAY BE BOMBS ON BOARD, IT WAS SAID THE PILOT WAS TRYING TO LAND THE PLANE ON THE PLAYING FIELD IN THE PARK BUT SPOTTED BOYS KICKING A BALL ABOUT ON THE SNOW COVERED GRASS. TWO YOUNG BOYS WHO WAS AT THE SCENE AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH WENT TO HELP BUT WAS HELD BACK ,THERE WAS A SPILT FUSELAGE AND ONE OF THE CREW WAS STRUGGLING TO GET OUT. HIS FLYING SUIT WAS ALL HOOKED UP IN THE TWISTED METAL AND THE FLAMES WERE BELCHING AROUND THE CREW MEMBER, THE POOR AIRMEN FELL BACK INSIDE THE FUSELAGE TO BE CONSUMED BY THE INFERNO. B40 BOMBER-- MI AMIGO-------- ---------- HOPE THE STORY WAS OF SOME HELP FLYER. Edited August 16, 2010 by brian1941 WORDING

Dawnanne
Hi Yes you are right. My dad was a baby when he was taken into the home. Not sure if dad is the only one left. Gordon died in 1995, Brian has died. June was the sister but we never had contact with her or your dad. Edited July 2, 2013 by Dawnanne
