Resident
I don't think it should be banned necessarily although there should be a limit on when and where they can do it. Kids round here have been at it for the last 3 weeks which I think takes the preverbial a little. For me it should be done at the most, 48hrs before Nov 5th. Chris_Sleeps
I think that kids need to win a licensce to do it, by actually learning who Guy Fawkes was and what he did. Putting some newspaper into an old tracksuit doesn't really warrant a reward on its own.

Harleyman
I thought penny for the guy was to be banned or has been banned because it was classed as begging i could be wrong though and by the vast amount of group of kids i have come across, slumped up against several shop doorways, i assume iam wrong! today i came across 4 different groups of kids, one of which came knocking on my car door before i even got out to visit the shop, asking if i could spare a penny! now i dont mind giving if i have got it to give, i always do normally with a bit of spare change, i always thought theres no real harm in it, but... the kids are getting more and more cheeky in order to get it, like knocking on peoples car windows my husband works as a courier and often delivers to several shops in a day, last week he didnt have any change to give left over, due to the 6 other groups of kids he had already given to earlier that day, the cheeky sods let down a tyre on his work van whilst he was inside the shop because of it! so, is penny for the guy banned and if not, should it be? Yeah sure, ban it like Halloween and Christmas. Let austerity and miserable old gits have their way

hockeybear
I wouldn't ban it cos as kids we all enjoyed doing it and the rewards that came with it. my problem is a kids coat and jeans on the floor is not a guy, put the effort in and actually build a guy and I'll dig deep and find ya a penny
Allen
I don't see any harm in it. We did it as kids. I do get a bit fed up of seeing them outside every shop though...but I suppose nothings changed. We all had our "pitch" in my day. There's far more important things to worry about than children following tradition.....and that's what it is...Tradition!

HeadingNorth
There's far more important things to worry about than children following tradition.....and that's what it is...Tradition! Making a guy for the bonfire would be a tradition; nowadays, far more often I see a tracksuit stuffed with rubbish with a plastic bag on top. A lot of them don't even bother to draw a face on the plastic bag.
