30.10.11 - Sheffield Forum 1-3 High Green Rovers

Recommended Posts

Sheffield Forum crashed out of the cup against High Green Roversthanks to 2 decisions from the referee. Changes were made to Forums side as Scott Fraser and Andy Coates were unavailable. Matthew Corker still sat out recovering from injury. Ashley Proctor and Phillip Gill came in.

In a pretty open game, Forum were the side to apply the early pressure and had to best chances. They did eventually take the lead when the ball broke across the area and Shane Middlebrook finished to the keepers far side.

The first controversial moment then followed. As the High Green attacker chased a ball across the box to the byline, he was judged to have been tripped by a following Ashley Matthews when he was at least a yard away from the player as he tripped over his own feet as the ball went over the line. Despite the protests, High Green took and converted the penalty.

The game was pretty much even but without clear chances created due to good defending from both sides. HT: Sheffield Forum 1-1 High Green Rovers

The second half began the same way although substitutions maybe changed Forums play a little. The second controversial decision came in around the 70th minute. A foul by Forum inside their own half allowed High Green a free kick. As the referee was checking his watch, High Green played on from the rolling ball and scored as Forum organised themselves. Despite not allowing Forum a quick free kick on the first half, in the same position, he allowed this one. It was clear to everybody the ball was moving and the referee wasnt watching. He allowed the goal to stand despite protests again.

The 2 controversial decisions had cost Forum their 1 goal lead to now find themselves a goal down. As they went on the offensive, throwing extra men up front, High Green scored a third in the very last minute of the game to leave a score of 3-1 to High Green Rovers.

A very harsh result and harsh considering the circumstances of the goals, Forum now move on to the league as they play Noahs Ark next up on the 6th November at Herdings Park.
