5law
Want to try an Olympic sport hassle free? Just want to pick up a hockey stick and give it a try? This year Sheffield Hockey Club is offering 'Play Hockey' sessions for 18+ year-olds at Sheffield Hallam University's indoor City Sports Hall based in the city centre. Hockey is very similar to football but instead of using your feet you must use a stick to control the ball. Our sessions will have safe indoor rules where the ball is not allowed to be lifted but you are also able to use the skirting board to bounce the ball off. 'It is a fast exciting 5 a-side format that will keep you interested and active for the whole hour.' Coach- James Bateman Sessions are led by experienced coaches and offer a great fun, social activity for people from all walks of life. The first program has been under way since September with 18 people from professional and student backgrounds take part. If you are interested in getting involved the second course begins on the 9-10pm 7th November. You can even join us on the 14th Nov if you miss the start date. 'With Play Hockey we really wanted to open the door to anyone who wanted to try an Olympic sport that they had never played before or wanted to get back into from their school days. By taking part we hope our players gain more confidence in a team sports environment and stick with hockey as their preferred way of being social and active at the same time' Simon Law- Coach "I take part in hockey because its a good way to get fit and meet new people without spending loads of money and taking up loads of time. I'd defiantly recommend it to others, it's fun and helps keeps you fit" - Becki Sewell- student. Because we know many of you won't have a stick we have new modern equipment available. All we require from you is to come dressed to get active. Trainers are a must but shin pads and gum shields, while recommended, are optional. As your first session is always free there is nothing to lose by coming down and giving hockey a go. You can come with a couple of mates or by yourself and meet new friends as you give it a go. Parking is available free from 9pm in the car park on Arundel Lane. situated behind the Hallam University Students Union just off Charles Street. To ensure you find the venue on your first visit a hockey coach will be present outside the Showroom Cinema on Paternoster Row from 8:50pm to show you the way to the City Sports Hall where the Play Hockey sessions take place. go4it
First session is free? But you've received funding? Is the whole thing free or are you charging each week?
5law
Thanks for your interest go4it The first session is free, there is a nominal charge each week of £2. On the whole sportivate funds each program nationally in a different way...a small charge is being attributed to our program to ensure that there is added quality and long term sustainability. Are you interested in attending? Simon
