Kidorry
Just found this and it looks like it was a man called Clegg who founded the Sheffield & Hallamshire football association. http://uk.ask.com/wiki/England_v_Scotland_(1870)?qsrc=3044#The_first_match
hillsbro
That's interesting, Kidorry. The Cleggs were a notable family of Sheffield "gentry" and were active in local politics, the law etc. (John Charles Clegg's younger brother William, who also played for Wednesday, was Lord Mayor in 1898.). Here is a scan from the "Sheffield & District Who's Who" of 1905 showing the entry for John Charles Clegg.
