06.11.11 - Sheffield Forum 1-1 Noahs Ark

Recommended Posts

Sheffield Forum gained a point in match drastically overshadowed by a nasty, career ending injury. Yet again, changes were made to the Forum side as Nathan Jenkins was unavailable but Matthew Corker and Scott Fraser returned. Both started the game replacing Jenkins and Ashley Proctor.

The game started brightly with both teams having posession in the oppositions half. Forum tried to play in to the area whilst Ark tried their luck from outside the area with several attempts. Forum defence kept strong and Arks did well to break up play and counter.

Forum took the lead in the first half, Phillip Gill was played into the area on the right, knocked the ball over the oncoming keeper only to be brought down. After no advantage was gained, a penalty was awarded which was despatched by leading scorer Daniel Sheedy. The game stayed pretty even to half time.

Second half started a little brighter for Forum but Ark soon got back into the game playing a lot down either wing but again chances were limited and Forum defended well.

Ark did get back into the game through a penalty. The ball was played across the area, took an awkward bounce and hit Ryan Lynchs hand by his side. As he then cleared the ball, the ref gave the penalty which was scored to bring the scores level.

Noahs Ark very nearly took the lead soon after, cross did come in this time, finding the attacker at the far post 4 yards out only to be denied by a point blank save by Forum keeper. Play was stopped seconds after when the keeper, following the save, went backwards banging his head on the post. After a bit of water treatment and recovery time, play continued.

Then followed the awful incident in this game. The ball fell loose around 10 yards outside the Forum area. Scott Fraser went for the ball, got there first and hit the ball with some power. Unfortunately, Ark captain was sliding in for the ball, caught Frasers leg. He went down in a lot of pain, the referee quickly stopped play and went to Frasers attention. After quick inspection, the referee saw his ankle and decided an ambulance was needed. He spent time comforting Scott, keeping him warm and alert whilst stabilising his foot.

Once the ambulance arrived, Frasers leg was strapped up and he was stretchered off to hospital.

After discussions between the 2 captains, managers and referee, they agreed to play out the final 25 minutes of the game. The Ark captain removed himself from the game as he was upset with the injury caused in the challenge and could not continue.

To be fair to the players, they both did well to complete the match but the game never really took off after that. Game finished Sheffield Forum 1-1 Noahs Ark.
