Miss_S_83
Hi all ECU problem on our car. Problem started shortly after buying it.. washers didn't work (but did sometimes!).. heating blows cold... all display dials/lights kept failing intermittently meaning no speedo, no fuel gauge etc... (then it would work again)... then locks stopped locking- would come straight back up after being locked. Then last week it stopped starting. Had diagnostics on it- either fuel pump or ECU so need auto elec to make sure but given past problems am hoping it's ECU (as been told it's cheapest of the 2!). Q is... can you get ECU's from scrapyards etc.. what work is involved/ Guessing it will deffo need a pro and think we have someone who can do it just wondered about the part itself as money is damn tight and the car could not have broke at a worse time of year! Thanks
willman
depends on the car - some vehicles have no choice but to buy secondhand ecu's. I don't think they even exist new anymore for one of my cars. Try ebay.

TheSmiler197
Vaux Vectra 2lt diesel 52 plate.. will try thanks! Don't suppose you know if much work involved in changing it? Hi if the diagnostics person says it needs a new dieselpump its not the pump.On that model its ecu is on the pump this can be removed without taking the pump off dont believe the garage when they say its going to cost you 1500 for a new one. This can be sent of and repaired at a quater of the price. Please make sure the battery is ok and fully charged first. Please let us no how you get on.all the best.

Miss_S_83
Thanks all for your advice, will bear in mind, hoping this can be fixed. Would you say £400 for ECU repair is OK as that's bill we are faced with was just trying to find a cheaper way, looked on eBay but TBH no idea what I am looking for really. Or is the labour itself involved that bumps price up?x

Grandad.Malky
Don’t want to put you off but I had a new ECU on a rover about 10 years ago and I didn’t get much change out of 500 quid ……………. Got knows what a new one would cost now through a dealer.
