If she hated the British miners why didn’t she close all the mines?
Though the proponents of union power in the the Socialist Republic of South Yorkshire can/will never see it, she didn't hate anybody but had a difficult job to do at the time. What she achieved in fighting our position and rebates with Brussels was superb, many industries prospered as a result of the policies of the time, but, 'ere oop norf, all some people can remember is that an inefficient, dying industry finally went pop - not as a result of Thatcher, but as a result of its own greed and the unions' idiotic demands.

Thatcher remains probably our finest post-war PM, as she is rightly viewed across most of Britain - bitter left-wing heartlands aide.

Is that a serious post?

Were they "every winter"

How many of these thousands of companies provide national services, services that should be under the control of the government.

It’s a service provided to the nation and you want services under government control, if you don't want all services to be under government control which ones do you want the government to control and why?

How many coal mines were there in the UK when she came to power? How many mines were there by the time she'd done?

Thatcher vowed she would break the miners, after they brought Heath's government to its knees, and she did.

It was the NUM trying to break another elected government; the miners were just the pawns of the NUM, the majority of which didn’t want to strike.

Even my dad voted for her and he was a miner.

The mines left him unable to live a comfortable short retirement.

To be fair, you can get 4 pints of milk from morrisons for under £1.50.

Perhaps if the parents were to spend less on booze, fags, satelite TV, mobile phones and contracts, then they may be able to afford £1.50 for four pints of milk

You are looking at it from a 2011 perspective, when she abolished free school milk working class people were a lot poorer, and as far as I can recall didn't have satelite TV, mobile phones and contracts. twenty park drive and a pint of beer were for many the only pleasures in a then quite grim world.

It’s national and provides a service to the nation and in my opinion the supply of food is about as important as you can get. So I ask again what services are you talking about and why do you think the government can run them better that the private sector?

A said the same very early on in the thread, sadly there are those that still don’t seem to have grasped it though.
