Knaresborough, just outside Harrogate? beautiful little ancient market town, straight up the A1 not far pastpast le**ds/ Wetherby, about 1hour/ 1hr 20's drive away.

there's a ruined castle, (one of the ruins that Cromwell Knocked about a bit!!) and a beautiful view over a gorge from the Castle Gardens, Mother Shipton's cave, with a petrifying well.

In my younger days (back when petrol cost less than 70p/litre!). Myself and a couple of mates would fill up the tank in one of our cars, Pick up a dice and head off.

Prior to each junction the dice would be rolled to determine our course. For instance if it was a simple left or right choice, odds it was left, even it was right. We'd do this until just before the gauge fell to half a tank and then navigate our way back. No sat-nav or maps, just our own geographic knowledge.

It was good fun tbh. Sometimes we'd end up a few hundred miles from home by half a tank, sometimes just the otherside of town, but never the same trip twice.
