Back to the sex ed bit I think nationally withdrawal is about 0.04% . I've only ever had one student taken out for one lesson and when the parent came in to talk with me and I talked about tHe philosophy of our work , the child was straight back into lessons. I've had some great discussions this week with some students, some very funny and many thoughtful comments and contributions.

My answer fits in 2 of the poll choices so how do i vote?

Im female and enjoy watching porn/with my partner

That could be a line from a porn movie..An attractive scantily dressed blonde knock on a door; a man, resembling a donkey opens it, she sexily asks the question, he answers...:hihi:

This is utterly depressing and bleak. I wonder how much of this is tied up with the cultural and sexual expectations as result of the proliferation of pornography?

ETA: here's another good article, although it is bringing the entire beauty industry under the banner of the effects of pornography. I would like to point out that I personally think that there is a world of difference between enhancing one's looks and trying to look one's best (mea culpa) and having bits of genitalia trimmed off (not guilty). I guess that they've used a photo of a woman undergoing some unspecified facial cosmetic procedure in the feature as a photo of a labiaplasty one would not be permitted?

I'm sure there were plenty of women who didn't enjoy sex long before the widespread availability of pornography - within our parents’ lifetimes, remember the adage 'lie back and think of England'.

As well as blaming porn, maybe blame the oyster platter at Hooter's?

But what's the difference between trimming their livery bits and having an ear pierced? Or nose, or navel? Many people are desensitised to 'accepted' piercings but shocked by alternatives, I struggle to see the difference.

I think this article would shock feminists less if it were about tummy tucks or nose jobs - both more intrusive surgery, but not encroaching on that feminist sanctum, that insistence on having a hairy growler like Brain May's shower plug hole.

My partner who is a midwife has seen her fair share of lady bits, and readily states that some ladies gusset bacon (not her words) looks awful (her words). If a woman feels this herself and it gets to her, and she wants to have a minor procedure to sort it out, then she shouldnt be made to feel like she is a silly sheep, brainwashed by the porn / beauty industry. Why is it any different to having pimples / warts / birthmarks removed / breast reduction etc?

It isn't, except that some people choose to turn it into a gender politics issue.

Surely the difference is that piercings etc tend to be purely personal choice and normally felt to be an enhancement by the Woman for the Woman herself.

There is a whole lot of pressure upon Women today to look and behave a certain way, and it seems to me that it is more done for the acceptance of men and often other women than it is for the woman's personal image of herself, although of course that will not always be the case.

Personally what does worry me a lot is the way that young teenage girls are dragged into this insecure way of thinking, the media is exploiting their already fragile and undeveloped self image...the pressure on young people these days must be immense, and leaves many wide open to all kinds of exploitation.

I couldn't agree more, if it is something that the woman wants for herself and not to gain the acceptance and approval of others, and something that causes her a lack of confidence then there is no reason on earth why she shouldn't have any procedure carried out in my opinion...so long as it really is just for her.
