Shieldtoad
I passed along it for the first time recently and couldn't help but notice that there are a lot of modern buildings there, particularly on the right hand side as you go uphill. As it's in an area that largely consists of old houses, I'm curious about what was there before the newer structures. Can anyone here provide information? biotechpete
Presumably you are referring to the new student village. The area between there and Fulwood road, around Endcliffe Crescent used to be full of various halls of residence for UOS that have been pulled down and replaced by low-rise modern en-suite rooms. The main ones were Halifax and Sorby halls but there were some others such as Woodvale, Riverdale, Crescent and Endcliffe Vale flats around the area. Riverdale flats were on Riverdale road but I think has been sold off for private housing. This page has some pictures of halifax and sorby hall. http://www.flickr.com/groups/universityofsheffield/pool/31345372@N07/ and a video of the demolition There was also a halls called Ranmoor on the other side of of Fulwood road. Shieldtoad
Do you know what was there before the previous halls of residence? Could it have been the gardens of a large house perhaps?

Shieldtoad
Thanks Nickycheese, I managed to miss that when I did a quick search. That's a great building, it's a shame it was pulled down.
