MrSmith
Malky knows his maths he also knows the difference between social housing and private housing ……….. how many people sell their council house once they have bought it, one less house for those in needy. If a tenant buys a council house there is one less council house and one less tenant, so nothing lost and the waiting list doesn’t get bigger. If the government then build a council house to replace the one bought there will now be one extra council house for the waiting tenants, so the list gets smaller. They weren’t allowed to build any more ………… under the new idea they will have to sell nearly one million to build 100, 000 new ones and its my maths that are supposed to be suspect. Sorry my mistake ………… 2 million houses Up to two million council houses could be sold to their tenants under Government plans to revive Margaret Thatcher’s landmark ‘Right to Buy’ scheme. Ministers are to offer heavy discounts – worth up to 50 per cent – in a bid to persuade people to buy their homes. The proceeds will then be ploughed back directly into building new homes in the area. The Government hopes that the new drive could result in another 100,000 homes being built Read more: http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/mortgageshome/article-2063555/Two-million-council-houses-sold-100-000-new-homes-built-Government-revives-Thatchers-Right-Buy-scheme.html#ixzz1eYRL4L1h

anywebsite
If a million council houses are to be sold, then presumably they will be sold to the million council tenants who occupy them. The number of people in the group who need council houses will fall by 1 million, exactly in line with the reduction in the number of houses. If 100,000 new council houses are built, then those additional houses will help to supply a demand from a smaller pool of potential renters. Where's the problem? The population has grown & more properties have single occupiers than they did in the past. Demand increased & the supply didn't keep up. Also a lot of council houses have been demolished, probably many more demolished than the 100,000 new ones built.
chem1st
you aren't chem, only chem is allowed to start housing threads if you want to get rid of your kids why not just tell them to go The fact is that the people of Hellas had entered the false path of ostentation, avarice and laziness, and were therefore becoming unwilling to marry, or, if they did marry, to bring up the children born to them; the majority were only willing to bring up at most one or two, in order to leave them wealthy and to spoil them in their childhood; and in consequence of all this the evil had been spreading rapidly before it was observed. Where there are families of one or two children, of whom war claims one and disease the other for its victim, it is an evident and inevitable consequence that households should be left desolate and that states, precisely like beehives, should gradually lose their reserves and sink into impotence. On this subject there is no need whatsoever to inquire of the gods as to how we are to be saved from the cancer. The plain man will answer that, first and foremost, we must save ourselves, either by changing our obsession or alternatively by making it illegal not to bring up every child that is born. A house is not a pension, house prices don't always go up. They cannot, unless everyone is to becomes homeless, or wages rise to force them up in the first place. edit; Children need homes, they need jobs (to pay the elderly peoples' pensions which are funded out of current taxation!). You can't push the debt onto the children you haven't had because you haven't had any, and nor can the disabled children of tomorrow born to 40+ year old mothers contribute to society in any meaningful way. anywebsite
This is it, isn't it - anyone could afford that house who was in a poorly paid job... You won't have to wait til you're 43 here That house is less than my house cost me in Sheffield 9 years back! It has to be a secure job, you need a decent credit rating & you also somehow have to save a 25% deposit out of that low pay, while paying rent, bills & everything else. MrSmith
And what about the 2 million reduction in social housing stock. Still occupied by 2 million families, they still exist and families still live in them, why are you finding this so hard to grasp.
