Ian Dome
Israeli officials on Wednesday said a decision by the UN Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO) to name Syria as the Arab representative to a committee on implementing human rights at a time when the Syrian regime is massacring its own citizens further demonstrates the total irrelevance of the world body. http://www.israeltoday.co.il/News/tabid/178/nid/23019/language/en-US/Default.aspx
Supertramp
Well only the UN could be that stupid. Should have appointed Palestine instead now that would have been funny.
B2 Spirit
Not a surprise. Libya was chair too and wasn't Saudi in charge of women's rights or something? The UN at the general assembly level is controlled by the Islamic bloc.

Jeffrey Shaw
At what point did the UN become a redundant piece of poo? 1946, maybe. The League of Nations was equally pointless. Both are mere treaty organisations, of no real importance (but of inordinate cost to taxpayers).
MAMALOCHA!
At what point did the UN become a redundant piece of poo? It was never important its just a pointless body used by those in power to give the impression of legality in there actions to the international community. But you work with what you got. Ian Dome
Does anyone else think the UN may be sending mixed messages? The UN General Assembly's human rights committee on Tuesday condemned Syria for the large-scale human rights violations since the crackdown on protesters began eight months ago. 122 states voted in favor, 13 voted against and 41 abstained. Though largely symbolic, UN officials said Tuesday that they were encouraged by the fact that no less than 61 states co-sponsored the resolution – including Arab and Muslim states Would like to find a list of the votes. afaik only Arab states to push for the vote were Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. "Though largely symbolic" should be the UN motto. http://www.haaretz.com/news/middle-east/un-human-rights-committee-condemns-syria-for-violent-crackdown-1.397129?localLinksEnabled=false&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+haaretz%2FLBao+%28Haaretz.com+headlines+RSS%
