chem1st
What about someone who takes an uninhabitable dump, invests their own time/money/effort to make it inhabitable and then charges someone to live there? They are providing a service Have you watched the program? The improvement is a service, the rent seeking is not.

No i havent watched the programme, i was commenting on your post, the sentiments of which would have been posted without the programme as an excuse/catalyst The rent is payment for the service of improvement, or to use your own example do you not pay for your coffee? speedbirdone
They are not creating any wealth whatsoever, they are blatant rent seekers and they cause nothing but misery. They are nothing but thieves. Stealing from others. Someone who serves you a coffee, somebody who builds a house, these are the people provide a service for the greater good. Thats a bit of a sweeping generalisation.

chem1st
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0183pgl/Money_Couples/ The 2nd episode has now played, and looks at couples and their attitudes to money. There are a wide variety of people and it's a very interesting watch. There's a scientist and his detestable wife, a young couple on the dole, a queer couple from Sheffield. A rich banker whom allots his wife an monthly allowance, and many more!
