Anyone know what those dangly things are on motorway bridges?

SPECS are the time it takes from one camera to the next. Bright yellow in colour.

"SPECS average speed camera systems utilise state of the art video system with Automatic Number Plate Reading (ANPR) digital technology. Consisting of a minimum of two cameras each fitted with infra red illuminators fitted on gantries above the road, so they can work day or night. SPECS speed cameras work out the vehicles average speed, given the time it takes to drive between the two camera positions."

Ah! I see. So the majority are not cameras, they're there to measure traffic flow. Thanks everyone.

I expect it's those damn things that send messages to the overhead gantry signs which say "Caution Queue Ahead 40mph" and when you get there, there is no queue. Meanwhile the traffic has stopped for some bizarre reason.
