172-125
Truthfully? I wouldn't even bother to work up the energy to get annoyed about it. Does it matter? I've often been inspired by what someone else has and decided to get one the same or similar. I once bought some beautiful lampshades. when my neighbour saw them she went and bought the exact same. Did it bother me? Not a jot. In fact I was quite chuffed that she liked my style so much tbh. It didn't bother me at first, but its getting to the point where its everything, they asked me today what colour xmas tree I had & trimmings because they were going to buy theres, I just said I've not got one yet, I thought get your own ideas
*_ash_*
get a life? I've got one thankyou, but someone else is trying to live it I don't think they are trying to live your life, I think they like what they see, and replicate it for themselves. If it wasn't for this kind of process, then we'd still be living in caves. Personally, I quite like the hyena suggestion.

I would if it was one of my sisters and it annoyed me so much. lol...just made myself laugh there ...can't imagine any of them doing it as one likes to be 'first' and the other two don't give a damn what their house looks like! NorthernStar
Your inlaws probably don't like you very much and know full well that this will get up your nose - I expect they are peeing themselves laughing at you and reading this as you type it. They will of course have noticed that you frequent here from you browser history while they were checking your laptop out before purchasing the exact model. Sierra
I need a quick rant before I go to bed. I am fed up (would like to use a stronger word but won't) of hubbys family members copying what we do and buy. We buy a new car - they do. We buy a 3 storey house - they buy one. We have a particular colour sofa & living room decor - they have the same colour scheme. We buy a 6 seater dining table - they buy an 8 seater even though there is only 2 of them. They hated dishwashers but when we had 1 fitted in - they had 1 fitted in too. We have a toy dog - they get a toy dog. We say were going to buy another toy dog after xmas - they buy 1 now. This is just a few things, it's got to stage were I won't even talk to them about anything that we are going to do & I've told my hubby not to say anything to them either. In fact I'm not bothered if they don't come to our home again. Does anyone else have this kind of thing happen to them or is it just me who have annoying family members This is one of my pet peeves as I've had the same thing happen. It's infuriating and it's weird. I understand when people say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but this is different. It feels different. It isn't nice. It makes you uncomfortable and they don't mean it as a compliment. It's very calculting and deliberate. It's baffling as well when they talk trash about something you have...then run out and get the same thing. At our old house, we had a built in china cabinet/hutch along one wall in the dining room. Sister in law always told me she 'hated' it, didn't understand why the former owners had put it there, we should have it taken out, etc. blah, blah, blah. What does she do next? Has the same exact thing built in her dining room. The same style, same wood, even the same cut glass inserts. Just be yourselves and do your own thing. Unfortunately, it's a free country and you can't stop them from 'copying' you. Maybe be a little less free with info. If they ask you where you got something, tell them you don't remember. Good luck. For what it's worth, try and ignore them. I know, easier said than done.

172-125
Lets add a few more things to the list of what they do, my in-laws were going to a car boot so I asked them to look out for a doll for me ( I knit dolls clothes) I wanted a doll to display the clothes on while taking photos, they came to ours a few days after, I asked if they had seen any dolls, she said yes but I'm keeping it myself My daughter started collecting fake baby dolls, so mum-in-law did, we've told her daughter no longer collects them, so she said, oh I'm going to stop now because there just stacked in corner of spare room & some of them I've never opened. The worse issue I have is the puppy they have bought, they now regret getting him & don't bother about him, he hardly goes out, he's not house trained, he gets pushed away when he goes to fuss them, it looks like he's going to be joining 1 of the thousands of unwanted puppies in the new year
Bethsmummy
I would be flattered. They obviously yearn to have what you have. Which means they envy to be like you. You're a trend setter.
