blades89
The shops were rammed on Wednesday, and many business reported an upturn of 40% in trade. What sort of business are you in and are you hopeing (and praying) for more public sector strikes over the next few months? If we have more stikes it could really boost many small businesses with all the strikers spending money in the shops, so in effect could be very useful for stimulating the economy? perhaps we need a strike once a week? The trade may have increased on the actual strike day, but it will be down when the people who were on strike next get paid.
tbtc
Where does the 40% figure (that *many* businesses reported) come from?

What was spent on Wednesday will not be spent on subsequent days-its a matter of displacement. Also a 40% rise in turnover for one day will have no impact on profits.I should avoid Dragons Den if I were you:hihi:
Tony
Perhaps it just tells us that the people who were on strike are so well paid that they can afford to spend their day without pay in shops, bars and restaurants.

The boost in sales was recorded in Fulton and Masons,Pondstretcher, and Yours for 99.These are hardly Bond Street names!
the_rudeboy
We're all.assuming the increased trade was due to public service strikers, when much of it was probably down to private sector workers on leave because the schools were closed. speedy69
May have also been that the 30th (strike day) is public sector pay-day. It may be useful to correlate this with previous takings on or about the 30th of every month.
