nubile
Not enough power from the battery this morning to start the (diesel) van, tested the voltage and battery is showing 12.7v, with the van idling it's showing 13.15v, so the alternator is ok. ? With this coinciding with the cold, i'm guessing the battery is fubared. ? Cheers.

If you try revving it to, say, 16-1800rpm you should then see about 14v which will prove the alternator is fine but it sounds like it is. You probably have a weak cell, and as you say it's going to rasie its ugly head right about now.
Resident
From experience running voltage is usually between 13.8-14.2 but your readin is just under that. I'd just check all your terminal points. It might just be a poor connection.

Balpin
I had a similar problem, and it was the battery. I have home start with the AA, the bloke supplied and changed it for me, at a less cost than a new battery from the local dealers. All within one hour. Good stuff, these days.
