Falkland Islands Tension increase

Recommended Posts

We should'nt be there. What right do we have to be there ? We stole it a hundred and fifty or so years back. And now it should be returned to Argentina. The South Pole is full of oil. We just hav'nt worked out how to extract the stuff yet. The only reason we are there is to protect the oil companies future profits. Another disgusting example of British Imperialisim. No doubt a few hundred young soldiers lives will be lost protecting these profits once again in few years time.

I know, shocking isnt it.

Fancy wanting to protect peoples right to remain British.

I mean, we should just give the islands to someone who dosent even own them and ignore the wishes of its British inhabitants.

i hope it all comes to nothing, i'm sick of hearing about young british soldiers being killed trying to protect others overseas :(

The people of the Falklands are British overseas citizen's. They are as British as you or I and deserve our support and protection.

Unless the airbase runway is disabled first somehow...

What are our rules of engagement in the Falklands, can we shoot first and check afterwards?

Let’s assume the Argentineans manage to put a hole in the runway before we can react, the Argentina’s need to then get troops past our ships and past our service to air missiles in order to get them on the island. Whist they are being shot out of the sky and their ships are being sunk the engineers will be repairing the damage; British reinforcements will be on rout to the Falklands by air, they will arrive before the Argentina’s get close to taking the island.

But we will know what they are planning and we will react before they take any action.

There remains a contingent of RAF airfield bomb disposal experts and airfield repair specialists from the Royal Engineers so dealing with ordnance and patching a runway would be handled swiftly.
