And now it should be returned to Argentina. The South Pole is full of oil. We just hav'nt worked out how to extract the stuff yet. The only reason we are there is to protect the oil companies future profits. Another disgusting example of British Imperialisim. No doubt a few hundred young soldiers lives will be lost protecting these profits once again in few years time. I know, shocking isnt it. Fancy wanting to protect peoples right to remain British. Let’s assume the Argentineans manage to put a hole in the runway before we can react, the Argentina’s need to then get troops past our ships and past our service to air missiles in order to get them on the island. Whist they are being shot out of the sky and their ships are being sunk the engineers will be repairing the damage; British reinforcements will be on rout to the Falklands by air, they will arrive before the Argentina’s get close to taking the island. There remains a contingent of RAF airfield bomb disposal experts and airfield repair specialists from the Royal Engineers so dealing with ordnance and patching a runway would be handled swiftly.
