maxmaximus
We're going to struggle to be honest, what with us no longer having a carrier that has any planes on it... Without air cover we could only use subs (which to be fair we could quite easily do). There's an RAF base on the Falklands why would we need a carrier? WeX
There's an RAF base on the Falklands why would we need a carrier? If the islands where taken again we would need to launch our planes from somewhere and I doubt Obama would let us use one of theirs.

If they can take the Falkland’s now, a carrier or two wouldn't get them back.

If.... there is a lot more hardware there than in the 80's when there was Endurance and 20 odd Marines. If the Argentinian navy did set out we'd have time to fly in reinforcements, and we have at least one sub lurking in the area that would just rerun the Belgrano episode again.... sedith
Our government will be ready for another war once they have pulled the troops out of Afghanistan? One thing worries me, we don't have Mrs Thatcher heading the government and holding it all together ... can't see Cameron or Clegg doing that! Yep and again if the Argentineans somehow have the capability to take the Falklands then a couple of carriers wouldn’t be enough for us to take them back. L00b
Have you seen what a single F-35 can do?Reportedly, now and for the next 5 years, precisely nowt: <...> The F35 - which will be called the "Lightning II" by the RAF and Royal Navy - is still a long way off from being battle ready. <...> Though British pilots have already been involved in the test flying programme, they will not be flying the plane off UK bases or the two new aircraft carriers until 2018. <...> From here. The UK got its first F35 5 months ago. You wouldn't want Argentineans to move too soon if you intend to rely on these
Staffy23
It seem that Cameron has told the Argentines to get stuffed. Perhaps if Argentina would like to row its navy out of harbour we could sink it for them. Im surprised Cameron is showing a backbone with this issue. Pleasantly surprised but surprised all the same. Re the Argi navy.. Hahahaha ---------- Post added 03-01-2013 at 13:47 ---------- So you include yourself in the we bit or are simply an interested spectator? What was that? Did you say something? Agent Orange
Regardless of what happened in the past, aren't Argentina being a tad hyprocritical when it comes to "colonial rule". I mean, if the UK were to hand Argentina the Falklands, wouldn't that then mean Argentina are the colonial power, given the islands are populated by non Argentine people?
