Guest
...Didn't it burn down? The Classic in Fitzalan Square burned down in '84-ish. It had been closed for a couple of years before that, I think. The ABC closed in the late 80s and was torn down shortly after.
biggsy
Crumbs!! I can remember going to the ABC and singing (all the kids did!) "We are the boys and girls well known as the minors of the ABC" I can't remember the rest of it though I also recall going to the Saturday Matinee (also known as the shilling matinee!!) at the old yellow cinema called the Pavillion It was usually a western and the baddie always wore black, the goodie was always in white, all the kids would Booo when the baddie made a run for it and cheered wildly when the goodie went galloping after him!!!! Kids were always throwing bits of paper in to the light of the projector and the manager stopped the film and threatened not to set it going again unless we piped down EDIT- Doh!!- I should have looked at only me's post, I would have seen the song Biggsy:)

Gordonb
Somewhere in the depths of my memory I seem to think that when it was built it was one of the largest cinemas in England. Must have read it in The Star when it used to be useful
