Any one else have no family and/or working Xmas day?

Recommended Posts

I'm working this Xmas Day for the first time ever (late morning, til late morning Boxing Day)...and to be honest, it feels weird...and a little bit sad:confused:

Not that I usually spend Xmas with my family (I don't have one), but either spend it with close friends' families, or me and my best mate just chilled and ate at my place last year. Either way, it was lovely and Christmas-like!

I've received some sparkly cards, and put up some tinsel...but it just doesn't seem like Xmas is fast-approaching. It doesn't feel very festive or 'authentic' this year for me:help:

Is this just me, or do other people (working or otherwise) feel the same?

Can anyone cheer me up with their plans for an amazing Xmas?!:D

It might be because you are getting older! I used to be very festive until I was in my late twentys but now I feel most people seem to have forgotten the meaning of Christmas. I find it too commercialised with many people having high expectations of really expensive gifts.

Have your Christmas celebration on Christmas eve. Go to a church service if that helps you feel festive.

We are having a quiet Christmas as all my family live within a few miles of each other and we see them weekly.

Yep, the novelty wears off as you get older!

If we had our way we'd shut the door and not see anyone from xmas eve through to new year. May have to seriously consider going abroad next xmas and spend it laid on a beach sipping mojito's!

Hats off to you though for working xmas day!

Working in hotels for several years as I did, I have worked quite a few Christmas Days and New Years Days too....Unfortunately very few guests would say, "oh don't bother about me today seeing as it's Christmas" and why should they, they've paid for a service so they expect to get it. We still made the most of it and had fun and it was still Christmas when we got home (however we GOT home...no buses etc) have a good one anyway

My hat also goes off to anyone working Christmas. I plan to really enjoy this Christmas mostly because my nana will be with us. I didn't get to see her last year.

I will most likely be working next Christmas which is kind of heartbreaking as we will have our firstborn baby then but I knew that when I decided to become a nurse

hope everyone has a very happy Christmas and New years eve whatever their circumstances

I'm on my own this Smoochmas as I have no family, but, on the plus side, look at what I do get:

I get to eat all the food I want to eat

I can watch whatever I want on telly

I can sleep all day

And eat all night *and I will*

It'll be a weekend of outright gluttony and self indulgence.

I can't wait!

One year, when he was really stressed with work and was only going to get a 3 day break before going back to it, my OH told his family that he was going with me to my family for Christmas Day, he told my family that he was going to his family, and so I went to my family, he got a whole day on the sofa by himself with some really lovely burgers for his dinner (since he doesn't like turkey and I asked him what he'd really like).
