Sweatshopboy
Apparently the first of the cowboy film hero's was "Bronco Billy" back in the early 1900s before the first world war. A jewish guy who's real name was Maxwell Henry Aronson he made 140 odd movies... Can't say I remember him. but I do remember "Bronco Lane" Before Bronco Layne there was Rocky Lane, one of my favourites, and before Poppins says I must be old, I'll admit it, I'm ancient, I can remember when Gabby Hayes got the gal. xenia
The Range Rider with Jock Mahoney was a Saturday afternoon favourite pre Doctor Who. Jock went on to play Tarzan. In Range Rider his sidekick was, I think,Dick Jones.

xenia
The missus just reminded me of Rawhide, not that having Clint Eastwood in it influenced her at all!

inessex
Like Patto I had the Davy Crocket set with the odd hat. About 1953 I would think. Dad used to take me to Fox House in the full kit with guns. I was in Texas behind the rocks not Derbyshire. Mother took me to see Tex Ritta, I think at The Playhouse, in 1955 – 5th. Birthday. She thought it would be a cowboy show. Turned out to a Country & Western Singer. I was so bored. Used to have Cowboys like some lads had soldiers. Only threw them out last month. There used to be a cowboy on TV around 7.00 on a Saturday night – Cheyenne Bodey – Big bloke.
chrishall
Derbyshire was ideal, in place very similar to the cowboy sets, I believe a lot of the budget TV westerns like The Lone Ranger were filmed on some scrubland behind the studios, cheap for the film makers but ideal for us budding gunslingers. The series was called Sugarfoot in the states but in the UK for some reason they changed it to Tenderfoot. Perhaps they thought we didn't know what a Sugarfoot was, if so they were dead right....
