Halibut
Are you having a giraffe, to-days music is mass produced, syntheticaly enhanced, total garbage - music does not even come into it. Most performed by half naked females, and spotty faced prepubescent youth's. Compared with the Stones, Beatles, Hollies, Jethro Tull, Helen Shapiro and Dusty Springfield they are midgets of the "pop" world. With respect, you're an old man - you would say that. There is excellent music being made today, you're just too stuck in the past to notice.
hugh jarse
theres not the money in cds anymore as everyone gets their music for pennies...the money is now in performing at gigs, thats why the ticket prices have gone through the roof. This should sort out the good from the bad. It should also change peoples taste for live music not over produced tat. Maybe not because a band like Westlife was being interviewed in the States along with David Bowie (a Brit) and he asked what instruments they played and guess what?..None! An artist who plays Guitar, Sax, dabbles with Piano and Drums cannot understand a band that does not play any instruments and therefore makes no music...great coordinated dance moves through
LeMaquis
An artist who plays Guitar, Sax, dabbles with Piano and Drums cannot understand a band that does not play any instruments and therefore makes no music...great coordinated dance moves through A lot of the Motown groups just sang and danced but it was brilliant music. You don't have to play anything - or even write anything - to be great. Joe Cocker didn't write stuff and he was a great singer. There was a bloke called Elvis too. The question is whether young people today will remember today's music. Of course they will. It may be garbage compared to stuff from the mid-fifties to the late-seventies but it will be remembered as reminders of youth. And I also know a lot of middle-aged people who are into X Factor and the like. It's not just young people who are into tripe like that.

Kadogo
a) That's not true. b) Even if it was it doesn't have to be brilliant music to form strong memories linked to time and place. Do you like Jedwards ?

Glennis
It is true, there never was a decade like the sixties, nor will there be again. It was the decade of the greatest change in all walks of life, from music to political and sexual revolution. It was also the decade in which mankind reached our peak. The human race has been in descendancy ever since. It was a fantastic time, the music, the clothes- even the politics and the changes in society. It was probably still an unfair time in some ways, as political correctness and female emancipation was still in the Germaine Greer bra burning stage - but, generally speaking it was a decade like no other
