Help with very sore nose please

Recommended Posts

Hi ...I wrote on here couple of months ago asking for advice about sinusitus as I was having problems with face and nose pain....The gp told me it was chronic sinusitus I had and prescribed me steroid nasal sprays..I have had creams.ointments..I have been putting vaseline up my nostrils for the last 3-4 yrs cos I have got severely dry nasal passages. I was eventually referred to an ENT specialist at the hospital and I went for my first visit last week. He looked inside my nostrils and told me I had got no skin covering the cartledge in my nose...so it was all exposed...and he said this was causing the pain and dryness...no mention of sinusitus....he told me it would eventually heal and not to use vaseline, apart from morning and night, no creams, sprays etc and leave well alone. Its still extremely sore, keeps bleeding, very very dry, and its hard not to put vaseline into my nostrils cos of the dryness...the more dry my nose gets, the more it bleeds...so I cant win.. my question is..does anyone know anything about this and will it improve on its own? I have googled about exposed cartledge and its brought up about people who have sniffed coccaine...and ended up with this condition...I can assure you that I am a middle aged woman who has never ever used drugs, so its not that whats caused mine....but any info would be appreciated...thanks....

Omg. When I read this I could be reading about myself. I've had this ongoing problem for around 2years ago. The pain from these sores tracks right into my face and up to my eye socket.

Been back & forth to doctors, who swabs it. On a few occasaions it has come back positve for staphyllococus so the doc gives me an antibacterial nose cream called naseptin which does absolutely nothing.

Ive had a flare up this week its so annoying & painful. When I first had flare ups 2 years ago they would last about 2 weeks and then clear up for a couple of months. Then around a year ago the sores would last a month and clear up for a month. Now they last six weeks & clear up for a month, so basically I have them more often than I don't.

I've seen on the internet that it is probably acute sinusitus which Im suffering from however my GP will not diagnose this. I'm so frustrated.

Hi....my nose started being dry around 3-4yrs ago now..but the pain in the face only started a few months ago...and that goes right around my face...mainly the central area...the bridge of my nose between my eyes and I get a 'stinging' sensation too...this is in my face...on a level with my ears..like halfway between my face and the back of my head...all the things I have had for sinusitus..including antibiotics etc havent cleared it up...mine doesnt flare up anymore as is now there 24/7. I did visit the dentist before my ent appointment where they took xrays and it cleary showed 3 of my back teeth have gone through the sinus floor, they showed it me, so I dont know whats gonna happen about them, I also have a root there what is due to be taken out after christmas...they dont know if this is the cause of the pain in my face..but when I told this to the ent doctor he didnt sound surprised but made no comment...the teeth on the other side are also very near to the sinus floor...I just wish it would go away now...the soreness is horrendous...and each time my nose bleeds..i go into full blown panic mode........Its good to be able to relate to someone else with the same problem..or similar anyhow...we will have to exchange notes....:hihi: I was also given naseptin...bactroban...etc which didnt help at all...but the ent doc says these did more damage than good...you dont know who to believe...
