andyofborg
So why is it suddenly now taboo and offensive when it wasn't in the 80's? it was just as taboo and offensive in the 80's, possibly more so as there were more people alive who fought in the war the allo allo characters escaped censure largely by not wearing ss uniforms and from what i recall having very few swastika's around. andyofborg
Is this offensive also? People are actually LAUGHING, its an OUTRAGE. indeed, however the uniforms are those of the regular german army rather than the ss and again there isn't a swastika in sight. you seem very keen about this, have you got one in your wardrobe? alchresearch
I just think there are more important things to get upset about. Like the BBC article says: The Party Superstore in Clapham, south London, used to have eight black SS uniforms, with swastika badge and armband, before it lost its stock in an arson attack during the August riots. "We used to hire one or two a month. Most of them were for uniform parties, others for villains and heroes parties," says Kui Nim. They are also a popular choice for murder mystery parties, stag dos and bad taste parties. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-16141392
taxman
Is this offensive also? People are actually LAUGHING, its an OUTRAGE. Thats not offensive, it's hilarious. They are also not at a stag party dressed as Nazis, siegheiling and singing Nazi songs...do you see the difference?
Bruce_Shark
The German atrocities happened between 1938 and 1945. Allo Allo aired in the 1980s, and featured Herr Flick as an SS officer. So why is it suddenly now taboo and offensive when it wasn't in the 80's? Herr Flick was Geheime Staatspolizei "Secret State Police" or Gestapo for short (no offence meant to Smallhausen). SS was Schutzstaffel "Protection Squadron" (originally Hitler's bodyguard), and weren't featured in Allo allo iirc. Most Germans in Allo allo were Heer (Army). Allo allo ridiculed everyone, hence it's almost universal acceptance (North Korea excepted).
fruitisbad
Tend to find the people wearing the uniform the object of humour..even if they take themselves seriously. I don't think a piece of garb did any harm just the robotic machines that wore them. On a point of dress, imo the SS were the best dressed outfit of all warring factions. It was incredibly well designed, didn't hugo boss have something to do with the manufacture, if not the designs? Though with skulls and all black, hey much have known tthey were the bad guys! The vast majority of SS were "Waffen", so had a uniform that was largely very similar to Heer... ...don't believe everything that came out of Hollywood. Glennis
Its not something I would like to attend myself - something deeply vile about dressing as a Nazi, even though its been sixty odd years, or so, since the war ended.
