I dont know how they all lived in that house either, and Stan on only his busdrivers money.

It must have been the first reality show ever, dont you think.

But then again, they may have been actors, playing a part.

The mother owned the house,Jack was a plumber and Olive was one of Britains first female financiers.A pension and three wages ensured that the Butler household withstood the inflationary pressures of the 70s.

Plus,of course,they were all appearing in a prime time comedy show.They must have earned a few bob for that.And they would have got a rake off from the ad.breaks.Probably.

Jack used to take the bus home to Tooting at night and run OAPs to bingo and to the chip shop.Stan was a comic at the Elephant where mum was the bar made.

Reg Varney was also the first choice to play Del Boy in Only Fools and Horses.
