h2407
I want me and my hubby to be to write our own vows but dont know where to begin. What is and isn't allowed? And can you pretty much say what you want?
Dark Moomin
I would guess, as with most of these things, it is up to the registrar in a civil ceremony or the officiant at a religious ceremony what you are 'allowed' but I don't think there are any rules as such. Good luck with it. I like the idea but don't think I could write anything that is good enough for the occasion. I have found a few verses I think I would incoporate if we did our own vows though. I would call the registrar/officiant and ask them for advice as they will know exactly what the process is etc.
Love2print
Only thing I can think of is if it is a civil ceremony, you probably wouldn't be allowed to mention anything religious. I know that you can't have religious music at a civil ceremony so I would have thought that your vows can't contain anything religious either. HarrietStar
You can write your own vows but as mentioned above nothing religious. We didn't really want to attempt it so instead we told our registrar a few things we'd like included and she did a great job of working them into the usual ceremony. MrBump
We were given a print out of ring exchange ceremony words at the registry office. We used this as a starting point and wrote our own.
