Help with vectra..

Ive got a w reg vectra 1.8 petrol which started playing up yesterday, the car starts first time and drives fine but when i turn off engine and try to start again it just keeps turning over but will not start again, once car has been left for about an hour it will fire up first time again, anyone have any idea what the problem could be????:huh::huh:

Sounds as if there might be an overfuelling problem. On a first start-up the fuel/air ratio is increased to give a richer mixture. This is governed by a kind of motherboard in the throttle body. As the engine temperature increases the fuel/air mixture weakens off to the ratio for normal running.

 

It could be that the motherboard thingy has developed a fault and is keeping the fuel mixture on the rich side. This will cause unburnt fuel to be expelled through the exhaust system as well as causing an increase in fuel consumption. However, when you switch off, any unburnt fuel will remain in the cylinders causing the plugs to be wet which results in a difficult or none-start. Waiting an hour allows the plugs to dry out and the engine will once again start.

 

Next time, you could try pressing the gas peddle to the floor and keeping it there whilst the starter motor is whirring. This allows much more air through the throttle body and may just lean off the mixture enough for the warm engine to start. If this is the case, it could well mean that you will need a new throttle body. As far as I know, the motherboard thingy cannot be obtained separately.

 

Have a look on Vauxhall Forums. Your problem is bound to have cropped up elsewhere.

Fully pressing the throttle on some fuel injection systems will stop more fuel being injected allowing the plugs to clear.Not really a cure but a work round.Try this pull the small vac pipe from the fuel pressure regulator off the inlet manifold, if you suck on the pipe it should pull back a diaphragm inside the unit if you get a gob full of petrol that means the diaphragm is punctured.
