watthaduin
I played for this club in the early 60s what a great set of players, Barry Tune the Sorsby brothers, Fletcher in goal, a wonderful winger scored two goals from corners in one match. These men loved to play, no showers, dressing room was a wrailway waggon but the attitude magic.
hobbinfootju
I played against them many times but we very rarely beat them. I played for Colley YS in the South Yorks Amateur League in the 60s. We went straight through winning all 3 divisions and then in th Premier we bumped into Hollinsend who were a bit too good for us. They played just off Mansfield Road on a bloody awful pitch which really should not have been allowed in that league. Having said that they were a pretty good side. Derek Hill
I played for Sheffield University against Hollinsend Amateurs in 1967-68 in the South Yorks Premier League. I think Hollinsend won the league that year but we beat them 6-2 on our pitch as we fielded our first team that day. (We normally fielded our 2nd team in that competition as the 1st team usually played inter-uni matches). One of the Hollinsend defenders was sent off for nearly breaking my leg...he was one of two brothers in the team...both big defenders....perhaps one of the aforementioned Sorsby Bothers? He owes me for a split shin pad...but better than a broken leg !! The other brother spent the rest of the game trying to exact retribution on me because his brother had been sent off....luckily no damage was inflicted. Hollinsend had a good football team but certainly knew how to dish it out as well ! Does anyone have any recollections? Happy days !
