Join us for New Year's Eve at The Great Gatsby, Division Street. Fun starts at 7PM....

It’s been a fine 2011 for the Cool Beans Collective. We’ve brought some amazing acts to the Steel City, our radio show won multiple awards, our nights have been attended by thousands of you, we’ve hosted stages at Tramlines, a room at Tuesday Club and we’ve been granted residencies at the Harley (Clothes Line), DQ (Threads) and Leeds’ Beaverfest. We’ve also brought the term “Ham Pocket” back into popularity.

And we thank you all for letting us do so. An enormous amount. Cos doing all those things on our own wouldn’t have been even half as fun. In fact, to say thanks, we’re throwing a big 2-roomed party at The Great Gatsby on New Year's Eve and we’ve invited all our friends to perform. And for the best bit, on the night of the year where everything seems to double in price we’re keeping it free entry! So join us in bidding 2011 a fond adieu and 2012 an even fonder ey up.....

UPSTAIRS – Live Acts!

STAND OUT RIOT

Manchester based 7-piece Stand Out Riot simply are one the finest collective of musicians around. Combining live horns, a violin and a cracking rhythm section, they create an exciting concoction of gypsy, ska, hardcore, reggae and punk. They headlined our Tramlines Festival Stage and we’ve been eager to get them back ever since!

THE MOJO JUJU JAMBOREE

We’ve been pestering King Mojo (Peace in the Park, The Psychedelic Solution, Mojo and The Beatniks, etc) for about a year now and he’s finally agreed to lay down some smooth jams for us. News on the street is that he’s gathering a crack team of almighty funksters for this very special New Year’s Eve set. This is the one that will not be worth missing out on.

THE GRAND OLD UKES OF YORKSHIRE

The Cool Beans Crew absolutely loves the Grand Old Ukes; they supported Mr. B the Gentleman Rhymer for us and completely rammed out our room at Tramlines this year. Now they spend their days as team-building mentors (true story) and ever-more transforming all your favourite pop-hits into ukulelefied classics.

THE LEGITIMATE GENTLEMEN

Hot, fresh, new, exciting live electro-swing from this Sheffield based outfit. Gok Wan calls them the sharpest shooters in South Yorkshire.

+ More TBA

DOWNSTAIRS – DJs

WONKY NINJA & DANNY BECK

Two of Sheffield’s finest, Mr. Ninja and Mr. Beck know how to pull off great hip-hop sets (UGLY) as well as balls to the wall rave sets (Bigger Than Barry), tonight they come together in creating the perfect party set. They’ll be hitting the decks at midnight, we couldn’t think of a better way to kick off the new year!

LONESOME DOM, GENERAL RONNIE & THE MEEK MAN

These three musky rears join forces in bringing you the finest funk, soul, reggae, hip hop and anything else that will get the party started. Big shout out to The Meek Man for getting out of the house for this one as we all know how much he likes the warmth.

ARNIVORE & HOWDLE

Chief Beaner, Threads’ Whipping Boy, Sheffield’s Worst Dressed, Illiterate Monkey. These are just four of the things Arnivore may have been called in the past. He's got future-disco connoisseur Alex Howdle at his side for this set and these two also dabble in removal work so if you're moving house give them a shout.

ZXODIAC

Former Renegade Brass Band scratch master and current X-Ray Horse go-to guy, Zxodiac will be laying down some right corkers for your enjoyment. (Misspelt as Matt Von Badd on the poster, my bad - Arnivore).

MYSTONIC

She is Sheffield’s leading Drum and Bass DJ but is just at home mixing Hip Hop, Garage, Rock, Dance and whatever else she gets her hands on. Recent events at a “Tuesday Club Presents....Wait” set led her to develop a new innovative DJ technique known as the “boob scratch” which has now been taken on by female DJs all over the World. Incredible stuff.

MR. MEERKAT

One of the city’s finest selectors, he’s an out and out roots/reggae/ska lover. You may have recently caught him behind the decks supporting the mighty Cat Empire or taking hold of microphone duties at the Harley. Interesting fact: last time he played the Great Gatsby he fell down the cellar.

ANDY ENCHILADA

This man has claimed to only enjoy music that induces him to perform the hands in the air/snake hips/rump wiggle combination (he’s won many a dance-off with that routine). So expect reggae pop, calypso beats and bluegrass anthems.

POWLO

Vinyl don and owner of an incredibly fine barnet Powlo will be representing Thirsty Ear on the night, providing the best beats, hip hop, funk, reggae and anything else he fancies playing! (Misspelt as Paolo on the poster, once again my bad - Arnivore).

RP RENZ

Co-founder of the fantastic Frozac night, RP Renz takes influence from an outstanding variety of worldly music and unleashes it all for his weekly BCR radio show.

There you have it! The night kicks off at 7PM and acts will be performing from the start so get down early! We’ll be closing the upstairs before the countdown so feel free to attend the gig prior to any mad raves you’re heading out to or even better, enter the early hours with us at your side!

Much love beaners!
