Resident
Yeah by the time I got back from lunch they had gone Farnell 30 days till stock comes in. Sad to see people trying to make a quick quid on ebay from them. Indeed. I found an ad from someone who claims he has 10 of the device. The price he wants is £95.00 and he's offering a warranty for an extra £23.99. No doubt the minute the product actually hits the open market there will be a flood of fakes/copies from certain markets.

If the idea is to make the cheapest possible computer & then somebody makes a cheaper copy, surely that's a good thing?

Doubt it - there's not much margin on the Pi, and counterfeiter will want to make money. Hard to do with an SMC PCB and a handful of components, especially if you're not scaling production into the hundreds of thousands.
Phanerothyme
Then there's this: http://omnima.co.uk/store/catalog/MiniEMBWiFi-p-16180.html to make it wireless

Cyclone
My phone uses the Android OS, not Linux, unless Android is Linux based? hahahahah Rich needs a new phone now.
Cyclone
The Raspberry Pi trumps a lot of the other picocomputers because it has USB and video out, something things like the Picotux lack - they must be controlled via a client on the same network. But like compuspud says, Pi has been a long time coming, and is eagerly anticipated. The only shortcoming I can see is (unless they've changed the spec) that it can't draw enough power over the lan to operate and will need its own power supply. http://www.fxitech.com/products/ A slightly cooler but more expensive alternative. Cyclone
Without starting another thread on it, can any of you tell me a good place to start learning how to code for android phone apps from scratch? I have lots of ideas and I'm also a good 3D mesh sculpting artist and texturer. Many years ago I completed a course in Visual Basic (now LONG since forgotten) so I think it might be something I can do. There seems to be no info out there for an absolute novice. I've had a good googling of SDK, OpenGL ES, Java and even the Google App inventor, but can't seem to really find any info about where to start. Anyone got any advice? Download eclipse and the android sdk. http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/
Phanerothyme
http://www.fxitech.com/products/ A slightly cooler but more expensive alternative. The 3d render of it looks groovy, but it's £150 quid! But yeah, this sort of thing is becoming more commonplace. The thing with Raspberry Pi is that they're non-profit. I paid £31 for mine including delivery. Just have to hold my breath for 30 days now.
Cyclone
Is there a niche for a portable computer without keyboard and screen, you take it with you and just dock to a convenient set of peripherals? Or will that be our phones in the future!
