Kalcrest Sheffield Steeldogs are back home again this Sunday following their great Semi-Final 1-0 win (on aggregate) against Milton Keynes, an OT win in Bracknell last Sunday, and a trip down to Guildford tonight.

Steeldogs go into the weekend on the back of 8 consecutive wins, but come up against two very tough opposition teams - the Flames at the Spectrum and then the Slough Jets at home on Sunday..

Slough have returned to winning ways after their loss to the Steeldogs recently and have scored 5 goals in each of their last two games. The Steeldogs will have to be on their toes against a normally offensively strong team who will be determined to avenge the recent 9-2 loss to Sheffield. A win is vital for the Steeldogs to stay level-pegging with the Jets in the League table and two points on Sunday will also square this season's League series up between the teams.

The Steeldogs would love to see as many fans as possible at the game on Sunday to spur the team on and keep the home winning streak rolling. Everyone's support is very much valued and really makes all the difference.

Please come and welcome the Steeldogs home to iceSheffield on Sunday after their fantastic achievement in reaching the Cup Final, as well as for their performances all season.

Tickets available at the Steeldogs' Ticket desk one hour before face-off at 5.30pm:

Adult £9.00, Concession £6.50, Child £3.50, U8's Free, Family £20.00

Games will be coming thick and fast for the next few weeks as the Steeldogs have mid-week fixtures too.

Next Wednesday, 29th February at 7.00pm see Basingstoke Bison come to town, following hot on the heels of Slough at the weekend.

ENGLISH PREMIER ICE HOCKEY LEAGUE CUP FINAL

Kalcrest Sheffield Steeldogs v Guildford FLames

Home Leg -TUESDAY 13th MARCH, 7.30pm AT ICESHEFFIELD

Kalcrest Sheffield Steeldogs are pleased to confirm the date of the first leg of the EPL Cup Final against Guildford Flames, a contest comprised of a home and away two-legged aggregate series.

Winning the first piece of silverware of the season will be the ultimate target for both teams and it should make for a cracking couple of games.

It is a massive achievement for this young 'Made in Sheffield' team to reach the Final this season, especially considering how Steeldogs were languishing near the bottom of the table this time last year. It is also a first for an EPL Sheffield team to go beyond a semi-final stage.

Owner Shane Smith is very proud of how his team has performed all year and knows the players will continue to give their all over these two games as they compete against the best team in the league.

Coach Andre Payette will be working hard with his guys towards the achieving a Cup win but in the meantime, Steeldogs have to focus on the upcoming mid-week game on Wednesday against Basingstoke Bison – 7.00pm at iceSheffield.

More details will follow on the Cup Final, but please put this date in your diary and continue your great support of the Steeldogs this season by bringing as many friends, neighbours and colleagues to the Final, as well as all the remaining games this season as the team drive for a strong finish.

Tickets for all games are available on the night from the Steeldogs' ticket desk, priced at:

Adult £9.00, Concession £6.50, Child £3.50, U8's Free, Family £20.00

Advance tickets can also be purchased at Steeldogs' games this Wednesday v Basingstoke, Sunday v MK and the following Wednesday v Telford.

Don't forget!

Steeldogs are at home tonight against Basingstoke Bison, facing off at the earlier-than-usual time of 7.00pm.

This will be the fourth meeting between these two teams this season, with Steeldogs 2-1 up in the series. Basingstoke have some veteran names in their line-up, including Steve Moria (Player Coach) and Nicky Chinn

The Bison have climbed the table since they changed their roster pre-Christmas and have since signed Stephen Wall from Peterborough to add some experience to the goal keeping side. Bison have recently suffered more than their fair share of injuries but have closed ranks and pulled together for some good wins, despite their short bench..

Steeldogs really would like to take this game as it represents the game in hand over Slough and a win would put them in 3rd place above Slough. Steeldogs will also want to keep their 10 game winning streak going on home ice.

The ticket desk opens one hour before face off at 7.00pm and tickets are priced at:

Adult £9.00, Concession £6.50, Child £3.50, Under 8's Free, Family £20.00

Kalcrest Sheffield Steeldogs 2 Basingstoke Bison 1

The busy schedule continued for Kalcrest Sheffield Steeldogs last Wednesday in a slower-paced game than normal against a short-benched Basingstoke Bison. However, Steeldogs picked up the targeted two points to lift them into third place in the League, two points above Slough and just two points behind Manchester. The win also keeps the home winning streak rolling to eleven.

While the job was done, it was a fairly quiet game compared to last Sunday's third period goal fest against Slough. Steeldogs were first on the scoresheet in this game and retained the lead from 10:09 till the final whistle after Janis Ozolins (assisted Gomeiuk & Wood) put the only puck past Matthew Colclough in 17 shots on goal in the 1st period. Bison's short bench was not helped by Steve Moria sitting out the second half of the period on a ten minute misconduct.

A 0-0 2nd period was followed by a 1-1 final session after Pavel Gomeniuk fired in another of his shots from the blue line at 51:59 from a good pass back by Edgars Bebris. Both netminders kept the opposition forwards at bay but Bison finally scored a consolation goal at 58:12 and the game ended 2-1.

After the game, Andre Payette expressed his disappointment with his team's performance, saying “Good on Basingstoke for coming into iceSheffield with a game plan to sit back and try to take advantage of any opportunity. Steeldogs were very complacent and we played down to their level. The only positive from the game were the two points but we will need to step up the pace against a tough Milton Keynes team in the next couple of games.”

Sheffield Steeldogs 3vMilton Keynes Lightning 1

A two point weekend, 3rd League position and 12 home wins on the bounce for the Steeldogs after a feisty double-header against Milton Keynes Lightning, giving them a superb 4-2 advantage in this season's League series, 6-2 including the Cup Semi-Finals.

As predicted, the quick return match against Milton Keynes resulted in further acrimony and a penalty count that reflected the increasing rivalry between these teams. Steeldogs returned to full strength as Andre Payette returned to the ice after his check to the head on Saturday.

There was a complete reversal of the scoreline on home ice and frustration from the previous night was served early on in the game as players came together just three minutes in.

Lewis Bell won his encounter with Grant McPherson though both players were given match penalties for their tango, with Ashley Calvert taking down Adam Brittle and both received 2+2 for roughing plus a 10 minutes for Calvert.. The referee had his hands full in the first 20 minutes as a total of 80 penalty minutes were handed out, though play settled down after the first ten minutes. Steeldogs took the first period 1-0 after a combined effort by Lloyd Gibson at 18:53 from Stuart Brittle and Edgars Bebris.

It was end to end hockey in the second but Steeldogs were the winners of this period as Ozolins doubled the score at 22:10, assisted by Ben Morgan and Pavel Gomeniuk, who later picked up a misconduct penalty.

MK finally pulled one back at 45:58 and they stepped up the pressure to find the equaliser, however Ozolins popped his second of the night into the net at 52:19 to restore the two goal cushion. The 3-1 win for the Steeldogs extended their home winning streak to 12 games and Edgars Bebris was awarded MOM.

Steeldogs next host Telford Tigers on Wednesday, 7.30pm at iceSheffield. This is a feisty team that has caused many an upset in the League this season, though they are rooted to the bottom of the League table at present. Steeldogs will be hoping for another home win to maintain their current third place in the League.

6th March 2012

Sheffield Steeldogs 6 Telford Tigers 2

Sheffield Steeldogs went in to this mid-week game missing Pavel Gomeniuk and Lewis Bell through suspensions but hoping to continue their home winning streak of 12 consecutive games, stretching back to December.

With a goal virtually off the face-off, scored by Greg Wood just 12 seconds in, this looked to be a positive indicator. However while Steeldogs seemed in dominant mode, the scoreline remained stubbornly 1-0 for the first twenty minute period despite numerous chances either on, or just missing, the net.

Home fortunes changed in the second as the floodgates opened with Raivis Kurnigins setting the trend. His first goal at 23:24 off a good feed by Edgars Bebris was quickly followed by his second at 24:13 as he fired over Declan Ryan's shoulder.

Janis Ozolins popped in the fourth at 31:40 as Steeldogs continued to pile on the pressure at the visitor's end. Ashley Calvert took the fifth and Stuart Brittle wrapped up the Steeldog's offensive blast with a short-handed breakaway shot which was saved, but he managed to collect the puck and shoot from a very tight angle.

Steeldogs went into the third period 6-0 up and with Andre Payette now coaching from the bench. The younger Steeldogs and Academy players were then given plenty of ice-time in the period with the shots on net still prolific but without result. Tigers managed to get on the scoreboard during this period, firstly at 50:41 and again at 55:19 to give the Steeldogs a comfortable final win of 6-2. Raivis Kurnigins was awarded MOM for his performance.

Steeldogs have just one game this coming weekend, away in Swindon.

Following a well-earned day off on Sunday comes the big one -

The English Premier League Cup Final home leg against Guildford Flames

Tuesday 13th March, face off 7.45pm.

It would be great to have a big turn-out by Sheffield fans to cheer on their local team to help them carry some goals advantage to take down to Guildford for the 2nd leg on 28th March.
