Phanerothyme
Rather an overstatement, since we still have, by most measures, one of the five strongest navies in the entire world. (It only seems weak in comparison to the days of Empire, when we had by far the strongest navy in the world!) Yep, that's absolutely true. Of course there's a very, very, very big gap after No.1 (USA) in every single category. In a raw measure of the number of vessels however, The Royal Navy ranks about 22nd. Of course none of these measures take into account any technological advantage, which in The Royal Navy is considerable when ranged against countries like Iran or Argentina. JFKvsNixon
Dont be ridiculous. The US has a great big fleet of carriers, destroyers and subs already in the Persian Gulf. Why would they sit back and let the UK and France carry out the operations on their own? The Libyan conflict wasn't just a Franco- Uk operation either. The US Navy fired off a few million dollars worth of missiles at the beginning which degraded Ghadaffis forces to a considerable extent BTW Obama warned the Iranians about blocking the Strait of Hormuz a few days before the Uk issued theirs The US navy by the way operate F-18s Time to brush up on your weaponry technology Interestingly Iran still operates F-14 Tomcats and F-4 Phantoms, along with their Mig-29s and Dassault Mirage F1s and their own designed and built HESA Saeqehs

Lets hope the Iranian's aren't thanking God and Russia for their anti-ship missiles eh, all hell would brake loose if the Americans lost a carrier. Tony
Well they certainly helped remove Ghadaffi who Cameron and Sarkozy decided to declare war on Sorry old chum but you can't change the facts even if you want a different version of history. Nobody declared war. There was a UN resolution put forward by the UK and France and somebody else who escapes me (not the USA) for a No Fly Zone and some other handy stuff. The RAF and ALA began air operations on the same day that UK submarines and 'Merkin Surrendermonkeymarines launched cruise missiles. Now, about that Enigma Machine... I hope the pilots have made their peace with Allah As opposed to the F/A-18 that entered service exactly 29 years ago on Saturday, nine years after the F-14?
