Muldoon
Rich doesn't mention DLA. He might have been talking about ESA or IB which assume the recipient can't work. Rich's quote "They're still just as incompetent though as they were back then, for instance, 2 years I rang West St Job Centre up to ask if I would be allowed to apply to SYP Special Constables seeing as I'm classed as disabled," hence DLA ? Not necessarily. DLA doesn't mean you can't work but IB/ESA do, so he might have been talking about one of those two, not DLA. If you get IB or ESA it's on condition that you're classed unfit for work. I'm sure he'll enlighten us. He may be on DLA as well as IB or ESA. Murphy Jnr
Recently I've got back to work having spent 3 months on the Rn'R and aside from despising the paperwork involved in claiming I found the level of help satisfactory if a tad beaurocratic. I got the feeling that if you're not trying to pull the wool over their eyes they are more helpful understandably.
Ghostrider
They're still just as incompetent though as they were back then, for instance, 2 years I rang West St Job Centre up to ask if I would be allowed to apply to SYP Special Constables seeing as I'm classed as disabled, the guy told me the Police were exempt from current anti-discrimination laws, I Googled it when I got home, and it turns out the guy was talking out of his trousers, it's the MOD (Ministry of Defence) that are exempt. Also, I contacted West St again last year, the Disability Employment Advisor there wanted me to go on some waste of time "Job Club" type course! Been there, done that? Do I wanna do it again? Not on your nelly! Most people would get their benefits stopped for refusing to go on the course...
chem1st
Most people would get their benefits stopped for refusing to go on the course... DLA, ESA and a part time volunteer job keeps you off the radar. And to be fair to Rich, the course probably would be more likely to hinder him than help him. They'd probably pay £800 to send him on a course to get a CSCS card after spending a few thousand to get him up to NVQ level 2 in Maths and English when he is most likely already at level 3/4. Mr Gobby
It's not the responsibility of the Job center to get you a job, that responsibility is yours.
Mr Gobby
It's not the OP that's stupid mate, it's the Job Centre IMO.. I had to put up with their annoyingness for 9 months back was on the rock and roll (dole) about 14 years ago, and I tell you if I ever get any kids, when they come of working age, I won't let them go anywhere near the JC after what they did to me back then! There you go again, biting the hand that feeds you.
